Pesticide misuse - Under United States laws, pesticide misuse is the use of a pesticide in a way that violates laws regulating their use or endangers humans or the environment; many of these regulations are laid out in the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). The most common example of pesticide misuse is application inconsistent with the labeling, which could be use of a material in any way not described on the label, changing dosage rates, or violating a specific safety instruction. Pesticide side effects - Pesticide use can have side effects on both human health and the environment, both with associated economic costs. The book, the Silent Spring by Rachel Carson brought the health and ecological effects of pesticide use to the world's attention in 1962. Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act - The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act of 1972 (amended somewhat in 1996 by the Food Quality Protection Act) set up the basic US system of pesticide regulation to protect applicators, consumers and the environment. It is administered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the appropriate environmental agencies of the respective states. Chlordane - Chlordane is a manufactured chemical that was used as a pesticide in the United States from 1948 to 1988.It doesn't occur naturally in the environment.

Raven`s Environment, 5th Edition is a most accessible, yet detailed, environmental science text. The text provides numerous examples and opportunities for readers to explore issues at a local level. Covering the enormous environmental challenges facing our world today, the new fifth edition of Environmental Toxicology focuses on the biological and health effects toxins have on living organisms. * Examines the problems of overpopulation as well as soil and water pollution, and expands the chapters on fluoride, environmental metals and metalloid (lead, cadmium, mercury, nickel, and arsenic), pesticides and related material such as air pollution and the pesticide dilemma. The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act of 1972 (FIFRA) set up the current system of pesticide regulations. * Includes `You Can Make a Difference` boxes in each chapter to help readers take an active role in regulation and policymaking. Its purpose is to make pesticide manufacture, distrubution and use are kept, and can be severely impacted. This is one basis for the organic food movement. Pesticide A pesticide is a most accessible, yet detailed, environmental science text. Besides human health risks, pesticides also pose dangers to the environment. * Offers additional information on a website pesticide and the environment.
